If you are an international citizen living in or around Fredericia and you want to learn Danish - the language of hygge - you have come to the right place.

How to get started:
To enroll in our Danish courses in the official Danish Education Programme, you need to contact your local Jobcentre.
Are you living in Fredericia Municipality (Kommune), you need to contact Fredericia Jobcenter:

If you are living in a different municipality, you may still choose to learn Danish at Sprogcenter Fredericia. You will then need to contact your local Jobcentre. Their contact information can be found on their website.
Interview before starting
Once you've been in contact with the Jobcenter, they will send a referral to us. We will then contact you and invite you in as soon as possible.
You will have an interview with one of our counsellors before being enrolled in the Official Danish Education Programme. During the interview, you will be talking about your educational background and motivation for learning Danish. You will also be given a language test in order to place you at the level most suitable for you.
You can usually start your classes within 1-2 weeks.
Free Danish course: for the first 5 years in Denmark
We offer Danish classes under the Official Danish Education Programme (Danskuddannelsen). You are entitled to Danish lessons on Danskuddannelsen free of charge during the first 5 years of your stay in Denmark. For some groups of applicants, a deposit is required. You can read more about this below.
Upon your arrival, you received a letter regarding your free Danish Education lessons in your digital e-box. You must be at least 18 years old and have a CPR number (civil registration number) to be entitled to free classes in the Danish Education Programme.

Free Danish lessons - for whom?
The official Danish Education Programme is offered free of charge to anyone moving to Denmark, who is above 18 years of age and has received their cpr-number.
This also includes frontier workers, who are employed in Denmark but maintains their address in another EU membership state, as well as Danish citizens who have been living abroad for several years.
The Danish Education Programme is only free of charge during your first 5 years of living here.
It takes approximately 2 ½ years to complete the programme.
A deposit of 2.000,- dkkr. is required for certain groups (see below). But it will be reimbursed once you've passed parts of or the entire Danish Education Programme.

Deposit - how does it work?
For certain groups, a deposit of 2.000,- dkkr. is required before starting classes.
You have to pay a deposit, if you:
- are in Denmark to study or to work (except from au-pairs)
- are married/partner to a person who is in Denmark to study or to work
- are in Denmark through a family reunification by EU-rules.
Your deposit will be reimbursed automatically when you have completed your Prøve i Dansk (final exam).
Your deposit will also automatically be reimbursed, if you pass a module test within the given timefram, and you do not with to continue with the next module.
Your deposit will be lost if you withdraw without passing a module test or the final test within the maximum time frame. When you start the next module, you will need to pay a new deposit.
Maximum given timeframe for Danish Education Programmes 1, 2 and 3:
Modul 1: 6 months max.
Modul 2: 6 months max.
Modul 3: 7 months max.
Modul 4: 8 months max.
Modul 5: 9 months max.
Modul 6: 9 months max.You are not to pay your deposit before talking to one of our counsellors.

I have a job. How will that fit with a class schedule?
Our schedules are highly flexible, as most of our students have a job.
We have day, evening, and even online classes.
- Day time: 8.00 - 11.15 / 11.45 - 15.00
- Evening: 17.00 - 19.30
- Online: scheduled individually
Day time classes are three times a week. Evening classes are twice a week, either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday.
During your initial interview we will be looking at schedules and find out what works best for you.
We are a part of Sprogcenter Vejle, and in Vejle you can attend classes on Saturdays from 8.45 - 12.30, so this is an option too.

Where do I go to get extra help learning Danish?
As a student of Sprogcenter Fredericia, you are welcome to join the Study Centre at Sprogcenter Vejle. This is the place to go for extra help. Here, a teacher is available to help you. As a student, it is free of charge and you can use it as much as possible.

I want to practice speaking Danish. Where do I go?
Every Tuesday we have volunteers visiting to practice Danish with our students.
Time slots must be booked in advance. Your teacher will help you.
You are also more than welcome in the Language Café at Sprogcenter Vejle each Thursday afternoon at 4 - 6.00 pm. Here, there is coffee and cake and chatty volunteers - it is free of charge and anyone is welcome to join! For more information, please visit this page.

I don't have my cpr-number yet. What are my options?
The Danish Education Programme is only admissible with a cpr-number. But you can still start learning Danish without a cpr-number. You can pay for admission to the Study Centre at Sprogcenter Vejle. Here, you will have access to study materials and a teacher. Contact Sprogcenter Vejle for more information on this option.

The official Danish Education Programme: what is that?
The official Danish Education Programme (Danskuddannelse) is offered by law to any foreigner obtaining residency in Denmark.
The Danish Education Programme consists of three different but independent parts. The programmes being independent means that you do not complete all three following one another. You only complete one Programme; the one most suitable to you. The programmes are organised based on course participants' various backgrounds and educational levels.
In each of the three Danish Education Programmes, course participants are educated in speaking, reading, writing, and pronouncing Danish.
Our ambition is that you learn a language useful in your everyday life. A language that's useful for your lunch break at work, among your neighbours or in your children's daycare or school.

I have been in Denmark for more than 5 years. How can I learn Danish?
The official Danish Education Programme is offered free of charge only for the first five years of living in Denmark. If you have lived here longer than that, your options are:
- FVU-courses - (Preparatory Education for Adults). If you do speak Danish at a certain level, you may qualify for FVU-courses, which are also free of charge. Please, contact our FVU-coordinator to find out if FVU is an option for you.
- Paying for participating in the official Danish Education Programme. Either on your own or through your workplace. Contact us for more information on prices and different options.
- Our Language Café, where volunteers come to practice speaking Danish with whoever is interested. The Language Café is open to anyone, and it is free of charge. It takes place each Thursday at 4.00 pm - 6.00 pm in the common room at Sprogcenter Vejle.
